Testimonial:
'After attending the Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Training, I enquired about arranging for some Experts with Lived Experience to come and test our healthcare building at the Hospice and was put in contact with Chrissie. She was so helpful, always quick to respond to my messages and happy to help in any way.
Chrissie arranged for two Experts to attend the hospice alongside her and Nicky. The two who came were great - they were curious, got into any space that they could, tested the furniture and, most importantly, went into the toilets to see if they would work for a wheelchair user. One great thing they noticed was that the bins in the accessible toilet were not wheelchair friendly. As we are having an inpatient renovation as well, this is great intel as to what we need to do in the future. We have a quiet family room in the unit so families can have some quiet time and make themselves a drink. The drinks station was too high for a wheelchair user which is something we can now review during the renovation.
During the walk round, there were so many positives as well, from the space, décor and speaking with staff which was reassuring that we are doing the right thing.
If you are a healthcare organisation or an organisation that is accessed by those with accessibility needs, I would recommend contacting Chrissie to ask for her and some Experts with Lived Experience to visit and highlight areas to improve'.
